The Violence, Law, and Politics Lab is a research group at the University of Chicago devoted to studying how local, national, and global politics affect cities and neighborhoods. Both interdisciplinary and multi-method in nature, the VLP Lab is currently conducting a multi-city project of geographic homicide patterns from 1870-Present. We are particularly interested in whether violence in American cities can be reduced via increased government accountability, transparency, and the provision of humanitarian or economic assistance.

We are located on the third floor of the Social Science Research Center (1155 E. 60th St). We are committed to transparent and replicable social science: all codebooks, data, and protocols will be posted on this site.
